Good neighbors, great city — new neighborhood watch signs
A new neighborhood watch sign now stands on Stararimi in Grafarvogur. Mayor Hildur Björnsdóttir visited Stararimi to introduce a new neighborhood watch campaign.
As a preventive measure, residents agreed to establish a neighborhood watch on their street and ordered a sign, which is now in place. Neighbors turned out in large numbers to celebrate the new sign, pledging to maintain an active neighborhood watch on their street.
Neighborhood watch signs feature a newly updated design, and residents can submit an application to receive one, along with installation, for a fee. Reykjavík City determines the sign's placement, picks it up from the manufacturer, and installs it in the appropriate location.

In a neighborhood watch, residents serve as the "eyes and ears" of their street or neighborhood. Connect with neighbors on your street to discuss neighborhood watch and how to carry it out. Each sign, including installation, costs 11,098 kr.

- Keeping an eye out for vehicle and pedestrian activity around nearby homes
- Ensuring mail does not pile up in a neighbor's mailbox
- Putting trash in a neighbor's trash can when they are away for an extended period
- Parking your car in a neighbor's driveway
- Walking up to a neighbor's home occasionally when snow is on the ground to make the house appear occupied
Residents can have neighborhood watch signs installed on their street after meeting the City's issuance and installation requirements.
The city also produced neighborhood watch stickers, which can be displayed in a prominent window near a front or balcony door. These free stickers are available for pickup at the Reykjavík City service center at Borgartún 12–14 or at Reykjavík City Hall.
